2018 was the year I became a mom. It was also the year I said BYE BYE to my pregnancy cravings & I took control again over my health & fitness! I would be lying if I said it was easy to jump back into my old habits — clean eating, consistent work out routines, 8+ hours of sleep — all the things that are easier to manage when you only have yourself to care for.
I’ve learned a lot in the past year in terms of managing my health as a mom on the constant go go go! And while I have no hidden secret to share with y’all, I do have one piece of advice to take you into the new year!
BALANCE.
Balance in your workout routine. Fitness has always been an important part of my life. Prior to “mom life,” I managed to work out on average, 5 days a week. Currently, in the midst of “mom life” I am lucky if I fit in 3 full workouts. But again, it is all about balance. So even if you have just 5 or 10 minutes a day, make it a point to move! Here are a few tricks that I incorporate into my daily routine that you can also try at home! They may sound silly, but I promise they will add up! 1. Squats or lunges while brushing your teeth — 4 minutes a day (2 minutes twice a day) adds up in a week! 2. Burpees — try two sets of 20 burpees in your living room or bedroom. This should take you under 5 minutes but is a great way to spike your heart rate quickly! This can also be done with jumping jacks, but increase the reps! 3. Counter push ups & mountain climbers — find yourself waiting in the kitchen for the oven to preheat? Or watching that pot of water as it comes to a boil? Use your kitchen counter to complete 25 push ups, followed by 25 mountain climbers (drawing your right knee in to your left elbow, then switch, increase the speed as necessary but maintain your form!)
Balance in your diet. Balancing our diet can be an even greater struggle than balancing our fitness routine. With so many temptations around & so little time to actually sit down for meal, it is easy to make unhealthy eating decisions that ultimately turn into unhealthy eating habits.
